Health Unit Ends Widespread Influenza Declaration

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has ended the widespread influenza activity declaration and now reports localized/sporadic activity.

As a result, visitors and staff will no longer be required to wear surgical masks at Stevenson if they have not had the influenza vaccine. Screening of patients and visitors for flu vaccine will also be discontinued; however other screening will remain in effect for travel, fever, cough, etc. with appropriate precautions being put in place.

There are typically two waves of increased influenza activity during any flu season. If you have not had your flu shot it is not too late. Increased restrictions during the widespread activity helped to keep our staff and patients safe and prevented an internal outbreak of influenza.

Thanks to everyone for their patience and cooperation.
