Stevenson to host Toronto East General Hospital’s Rural Retreat

ALLISTON – June 03, 2015 – Stevenson Memorial Hospital is pleased to be hosting the Medical Residents Retreat on Friday, June 19th, 2015. Stevenson and the Town of New Tecumseth will host up to 30 medical residents as part of the Toronto East General Hospital’s Rural Retreat which is being presented by the Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP). This event is a resident-led retreat intended to provide participants with unique rural health learning opportunities.

ROMP is supporting the Alliston & Area Physician Recruitment Committee (AAPRC) efforts to raise awareness of healthcare needs in the New Tecumseth catchment area and drive physician recruitment.  Events like Rural Retreat bring qualified medical residents to the community where they can experience first class community medicine and a wonderful rural lifestyle. The goal is that once participants experience the great amenities and high level of service that Stevenson and New Tecumseth have to offer, that they will want to establish practices within the community.

“I am extremely pleased to see us hosting Toronto East General’s Rural Retreat,” said Dr. Oswaldo Ramirez, Chief of Staff at Stevenson. “I think it’s critical for our community that we showcase the first class level of services we offer at Stevenson, and I am excited to be able to share the unique culture of our hospital with our visiting medical residents. I am certain that our guests will see we offer true inclusiveness, while championing a spirit of innovation. At Stevenson we endeavour to offer excellent and compassionate care for our patients.”

The day will begin with residents attending a lecture by Dr. Ramirez at the Sir Frederick Banting Homestead and followed by a tour of the hospital and Honda Manufacturing facility. The day concludes with hiking and canoeing at Earl Rowe Provincial Park.
