Patients, families, visitors and guests to Stevenson Memorial Hospital now have free WiFi access on their phones or tablets

ALLISTON – November 5, 2015 – After a successful trial of wireless internet access, Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) is now providing WiFi access to patients, family, visitors and guests.  Those interested in connecting need to access the SMH-Guest network and follow the onscreen instructions to register for a free, time-limited account.  Those who want access must also accept the terms and conditions related to WiFi access.

SMH is able to provide users with limited WiFi due to a new wireless system that has been implemented to improve patient care.

The main purpose of the WiFi network is to provide network access to clinical and information technology systems to advance patient care.  Nursing and inter-professional staff will be able to provide bedside care using state-of-the-art technologies that have proven themselves to be in the best interest of the patient.  A bedside cardiac monitor will now be portable thereby freeing patients from the confines of their room, while still allowing them to be monitored by medical staff.  An x-ray taken in the emergency room is now immediately available on the hospitals x-ray viewing software.  The new WiFi extends the range of space that the portable x-ray can operate within.

This new WiFi wireless system is well aligned with the hospital’s strategic goal of truly “Building the Best” for patients and their families and demonstrates the level of commitment to revitalize Stevenson through redevelopment.
