Upgrades to Mary McGill Mental Health Centre

Patients visiting the Mary McGill Mental Health Centre this summer will notice a refreshing difference in the building.

Upgrades to the electrical service in the building will allow air conditioning units to be added to each floor. The building houses direct patient care areas and hospital administration offices.

“Psychiatric patients in the New Tecumseth region currently have very limited access to mental health care and this centre is a critical support for the people of this region,” said Jody Levac, CEO at Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

“This most vulnerable patient population depends on this access to service and these upgrades will allow for the provision of a respectful, comfortable, safe environment and improved quality of care.” Levac thanked the Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and hospital staff for working as a team to secure the funding and for a strong commitment to safe quality care.

This Centre experiences very high ambient temperatures during the summermonths as it currently has no air conditioning and limited capacity for electrical fans. As a result, missed appointments place patients at risk for readmission to hospital.
